Dream of Mine
The high tea ceremony of British tradition is composed by delicately arranged foods and products historically brought to the table by colonial violence and appropriation. Just like in the British affection for tea, Canada has followed Britain in this model of systematic colonial exploitation and extraction of global South territories in order to generate the national corporate wealth that enables our daily commodities.
Utilizing remains of these tea traditions, “Dream of Mine” stages some of the social-environmental ravages forced on entire communities in Latin America, echoing the accountability of Canadian mining companies for permanently damaging environments and nations by means of indulgence.
