Part of the process of making this work involved gathering soil from the University of Toronto Art Museum's grounds. Most of the soil was used to build a ceramic installation. In favour of the ceramic process, I separated larger stones, bricks, metals, branches and other dirt materials. I made a series of crayons with these parts of soil that I had purposely dislocated.

Soil-based wax crayons
This set of crayons is mostly composed of Anthracite coal, the main fuel used to heat University of Toronto's first building, University College, before it burnt down in 1890. The crayon takes the shape of a little piece of anthracite found at University of Toronto Art Museum's grounds.
